A quick fix solution for wrinkles?
We all know the saying. If it sounds too good to be true, it must be too good to be true. Right?
When it comes to quick fixes, I’m always just a little sceptical. Never one to believe anything in life can be fixed in an instant unless of course, you win the lottery, that’s a quick fix albeit of another kind.
When it comes to most skincare and the hyped-up promises of a quick fix solution for wrinkles, for me, these promises of a quick fix are at best annoying at worst, downright unethical.
But I’ll spare you the rant if you want to know my view in excruciating detail you can find it here.
But what if something seems like a quick fix solution with instant results as well as long-term results? Something that is truly a solution to wrinkles? Now we’re talking!! That’s exciting!
You might think heading off for anti-wrinkle injections is a quick fix and it is, but unless your skin is in tip-top condition dermal fillers and muscle relaxants only half treat the problem of a tired and prematurely aged skin. Ultimately you will be disappointed.
The ultimate quick fix?
Low-Frequency Sonophoresis can be a quick fix solution for wrinkles, and I’m a massive fan of this cosmetic treatment harnessing the power of sound. You’ll know it as ultrasound, and there’s nothing new about this technology, it’s been used medically for a long time giving us a visual of what’s going on in our body.
But when it comes to applying this technology to the skin, these harmless waves of low-frequency sound can slow down the appearance of ageing and in many cases rejuvenate the skin.
How does it work?
When used on the skin, this technology, known as Low Frequency (20,000 – 25,000 kilohertz (kHz) per second) Sonophoresis (LFS) is the perfect quick-fix solution for wrinkles and sagging skin. The sound waves oscillate through the skin at 20,000 kHz per second. Yeah, I know that probably doesn’t mean much to you, but it’s significant to the success of transdermal delivery. This oscillation of sound creates invisible cavities which temporarily disrupts your lipid barrier and opens up intracellular pathways.
Now that’s exciting! But why?
Well, the active ingredients commonly used in skincare preparations can now find their way into your dermal layer where they will do their best work. LFS will direct nutritional support from Vitamins like Retinol (Vit A) and L-ascorbic acid (Vit C) to the dermal layer of your skin. Exactly where they’re needed!!
Sure, you get these vitamins in your diet, but they don’t always find their way to your skin. Depending on the needs of your body, these essential nutrients can be withheld from the skin and sent to other vital body organs where the requirements may be higher than the needs of the skin. Yep, your body’s smart like that.
But why should your skin miss out, especially if there’s a way to speed things along? LFS does just that. Nutrients found in your skincare formulations that would otherwise languish on the surface of your skin can go so much deeper.
As well as sending these much-needed nutrients direct to your dermis to fire up collagen production and fight free-radical oxidation, there is a thermic reaction taking place. Your skin is warmed and in doing so, tricks the skin into repair and triggers your fibroblast cells into a healing response.
A fibroblast is a specialised cell responsible for much or the collagen production in the skin. These intelligent little cells found in the dermis are dependent on retinoids (vitamin A) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to function efficiently and are stimulated into action to produce collagen when the skin is in trauma or wounded. So, if you’ve ever wondered what’s happening when your skin is healing? Well, part of this complicated process is fibroblast activity. It’s pretty amazing, and it is the reason why safely delivering heat to the skin through waves of sound is a wonderfully efficient way of stimulating fibroblasts to produce new healthy collagen.
The quick-fix solution for wrinkles with no downtime?
Well, sure there are plenty of other devices and treatments like Radiofrequency, LED technology, Chemical Peels, Fractional Laser to name but a few. What I particularly love about Sonophoresis (LFS) is the minimal social downtime (if any), and the skin looks plumped up and more hydrated almost immediately. You’re just about ready for anything after this quick fix treatment!! With the bonus of long term improvements and a much firmer, healthier skin. Who doesn’t want that!
Sonophoresis (LFS) is a quick fix answer for skin that has lost its elasticity, you know, it’s bounce. Like the downward sag around the mouth (giving a kind of sad appearance) and the loose skin on the neck.
When should you start?
Any time and any age. If the idea of wrinkles and sagging skin strikes fear in your heart, then why wait? Prevention is so much easier than finding a cure. Right?
Or, you may be thinking it’s too late for you? Short answer? No. Never.
If you’re already seeing these signs of ageing and feel less than your usual confident self, then consider sonophoresis (LFS) as an anti-aging option. You will see improvements. Sure, you may want to consider other more invasive cosmetic treatments, but I’ve seen significant long-term improvements to the skin; especially when combined with cosmeceutical skincare and regular professional chemical peel treatments.
With all this good news, is there a downside?
If you are under the care of an experienced and well-trained skincare professional then apart from the mild discomfort of heat on your skin, there really shouldn’t be any adverse side effects. Most modern sonophoresis devices have controls to limit power output, duration of the treatment and a comfortable frequency to suit your sensitivities.
The low frequency of the sound waves, is barely audible to the human ear, although some people do find the sound annoying, but rest assured it causes absolutely no harm to your hearing. Some clinics will opt for earplugs, but as the sound is travelling through you (so to speak) they make little difference, but some people swear by them.
Where to next?
There are a variety of devices available, most notably Ultherapy who’ve done a pretty good job of marketing themselves and are at the top end in technology. The treatment gives your skin a lift, and at around $900AUD per treatment, Ultherapy assures, you’ll only require one treatment to achieve results.
You can also purchase at-home-devices.
If you’re into DIY facial treatments, then you’ll need to do some research to ensure you’re buying a quality device that has all the appropriate safety measures to prevent excessive heat reactions which if not applied with caution could burn your skin. If you want to do it yourself at home, then Environ’s DF Mobile Device may be perfect. But, it’s for the committed as you’ll be investing around $950 for this beauty.
Visit a beauty therapist or skincare professional for advice on the best Low-Frequency Sonophoresis (LFS) treatment options available.
Depending on the sophistication of the device, most salons will charge anywhere up to $300 and of course, will depend on what other treatments you’re having at the same time. Microdermabrasion, Chemical peels or LED Light Therapy can accompany your Sonophoresis (LFS) treatment.
If you live in Australia, you may want to check out the treatment Ultraceuticals have on offer. They call it Vita-abrasion Facial Treatment, which is a combination of microdermabrasion and Low-Frequency Sonophoresis. It’s an excellent treatment for tired, dull skin.
So that’s my quick-fix solution for wrinkles, but with lasting results. You’ll see improvements in your skin now and well into the future.
